Kenneth Howard Jansen
March 25, 1947 – July 21, 2026

Kenneth Howard Jansen, 79, of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after a long illness.

Ken was born on March 25, 1947, in Port Huron, Michigan, to Edward and Marie Jansen. He married Teresa Lazo on January 11, 2013. Throughout his life, Ken was known for his hard work, dedication, and commitment to those he loved.

A 1965 graduate of Port Huron Catholic High School, Ken proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969 as an aircraft jet engine mechanic. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged. His military decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Following his military service, Ken attended McDonald’s Hamburger University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Advanced Operating Controls—something he proudly joked was his "Bachelor’s of Hamburgerology.” He went on to build a distinguished career in restaurant management. From 1975 to 1982, he served as General Manager of Elias Brothers Big Boy before becoming an owner and operator of a Howard Johnson’s restaurant. After moving to Maryland in 1984, Ken continued his career in restaurant operations and ultimately retired in 2018 as Vice President of Operations for Home Café with Arby’s Corporation.

In addition to his wife, Teresa, Ken is survived by his son, Greg (Kim) Jansen; daughter, Ann Jansen; and stepdaughter, Ashley Lazo. He was a loving grandfather to Kendra, Neil (Morgan), Paigelynn, and Shaina (Jacob), and a proud great-grandfather to Isaiah and Holden.

He is also survived by his brothers, Edward (Barbara), Thomas (Barb), David (Barb), and Charles (Aneta); sisters, Suzanne (Richard), Rose (Hans), and Jeanne (Steve); as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will also be missed by his faithful cat, Smokey.

Ken will be remembered for his dedication to the United States Marine Corps, his years of service to his country, his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and the many good times he shared with family and friends.

Inurnment will take place at the Allied Veterans Columbarium in Port Huron.
