Kent DeWayne Carter, born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to Clarence and Mary Carter, graduated from Clinton High School. He joined the US Army in 2000 as a Military Police Officer, serving on a protective detail at the Pentagon after 9/11 and two combat tours in Afghanistan. After an injury ended his active duty, he earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix. In 2009, he relocated to Virginia with his family and served as a Special Investigator for the Office of Special Investigations and the Department of Commerce. He later became a realtor with Keller Williams Metro Center in Arlington, VA, and served as a leader in the NAACP, including as 1st Vice President and Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee. He also served as a Worshipful Master of Prince Hall Freemasons-Alexandria. Kent resided in Northern Virginia from July 2009 until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Lou Carter, his maternal grandparents Willie and Martha Burress, and paternal grandparents Roscoe and Ruthie Carter; uncles Don and Archie Carter; aunts Ella Miller Fuller and Dorothy Carter.

He leaves to cherish his memory, including his daughter Kennedi Carter, former wife Melanie Bell-Carter, brother Barry Cantrell, sister Trista Carter, girlfriend Alonia Williams, aunts Betty Mings, Otella Seeber, Judy Carter, and Barbara Carter, uncles Jack Burress, Steve Burress, and Chester Carter, and many loving family and friends.
